BASIS at UNCTAD’s E-Commerce Week

Bangladesh is going to participate at the The third edition of UNCTAD’s E-Commerce Week to be held in Geneva from 24th to 28th April, 2017 where BASIS Director Mostafizur Rahaman Sohel will flag the nation.

eTrade for All (ETFA) is a multi-stakeholder initiative of UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) to improve the ability of developing countries and countries with economies in transition to use and benefit from e-commerce.

“ETFA is a global initiative of United Nation to raise awareness of opportunities, challenges and solutions related to leveraging e commerce. BASIS has been playing a vital role here as a Private Sector Advisory Council Member. One of our key mandates is to raise awareness among public sector players (donors, governments, agencies) about the challenges to ecommerce (and this we take to mean B2B and B2C trade and transactions in goods and services alike) worldwide, and ideate solutions to these challenges. This is timely – there is tremendous hunger among all agencies and most governments for information and data on the state of ecommerce and ideas on how to fuel it.”

“This year’s E-Commerce Week, with the theme “Towards Inclusive E-Commerce”, will offer a platform for participating stakeholders to discuss key challenges and opportunities related to e-commerce and define concrete actions towards more inclusive trade, global benefits and sustainable development in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.”

He is amongst the speakers list in E-commerce week along with other global stalwarts which includes Mr. Jack Ma, Founder and Chairman of Alibaba Group and Special Adviser of UNCTAD for young entrepreneurs and small business.

“From our own perspective, we will focus on a few specific areas including – attracting investment for micro and small ecommerce merchants, connecting donor agencies in expansion of e-commerce culture here and inspiring the international logistic companies who are eying to foray into ecommerce logistic part in Bangladesh so that they come up with special freight to promote cross –border e-commerce.”
