CSE brings reports on the solar energy

CSENGO News Desk :: India suffers from chronic energy poverty. Even after 65 years of independence, one-third of its
households have no access to grid power. In rural India, about 45% of the homes use largely
kerosene to light their homes and shops. With no access to any sources of lighting, more than a
million homes go dark after sunset.

Solar energy is the best option to tackle this issue but despite falling prices, it still remains quite
expensive compared to conventional energy. We believe that a strong domestic manufacturing
sector is essential for a bright solar energy future of the country.

Jagdeep Gupta, Executive Director of Centre for Science and Environment said, We thank in advance all of you for your support to CSE which keeps our research going.

We have pleasure presenting to you two new books from CSE on the solar energy sector:

– FACING THE SUN POLICY FOR SUSTAINABLE GRID-CONNECTED SOLAR ENERGY (Rs495/-)
– GOING REMOTE RE-INVENTING THE OFF-GRID SOLAR REVOLUTION FOR CLEAN ENERGY FOR ALL
(Rs495/-)

Grid-connected solar power is a new and rapidly growing sector in India. There is hardly any
independent research on how grid-connected projects are being implemented or on the off-grid
ones. These CSE reports are the outcome of our year-long research to understand what is
working and what is not.
