The cosmetic use of herbicides such as Garlon and Roundup should have been outlawed years ago. Ontario Pesticides Act can impose fines of $200,000 per day and a year in prison for their use, a good move. However, Toronto's ravines are now being targeted by native-species groups who are using chainsaws, Garlon and Roundup to kill shade trees that they alone have declared to be "non-native". This is not big business or vane homeowners poisoning our environment, but people claiming to be back-to-the-earth types.
