German Political Persons Visited Many Places in Bangladesh
NGO News Desk :: Members of the German National Parliament (German Bundestag) Mr. Josef Winkler, Member of the Green Party, Dr. Birgit Reinemund, Member of the Free Democratic Party, Mr. Johannes Andreas Pflug, Ms. Karin Evers-Meyer, and Mr. Holger Ortel, Members of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, accompanied by representatives from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), visited the factories Villyatex Group and Bakhrabad Knitting Inds.
Ltd. in Gazipur, Bangladesh. They got an overview of the best practices in the Ready Made Garments (RMG) sector of Bangladesh and were very impressed by the green factory initiatives by Villyatex Group. They also appreciated the improvements made in Bakhrabad Knitting Inds. Ltd under the Factory Improvement Programme of GIZ and BGMEA. On the way back, they visited a Women’s Café facilitated by local NGO Awaj Foundation, where garments workers come after a hard day’s work, to learn about the labor law, their rights as well as responsibilities at the workplace, through training as well as creative infotainment through the popular game of Ludo, with support from GIZ. Here they conversed with NGO representatives and garments workers who shared the improvements they have had in their workplace as well as the community, and recommended this sensitization of women garments workers as an initiative worth to be scaled up.
