Yunus Addresses End Poverty Concert in NY
NGO News Report :: Nobel Laureate Professor Yunus urged a gathering of 50,000 youth to create a world without poverty, without unemployment, and without any need for people to live on state charity at a concert in New York on 28 September. The Global Citizens Movement, which organized the festival, also met with Professor Yunus and are planning to include his proposals for an international minimum wage for garment workers and ‘happy workers tag’ as part of their global campaign to end extreme poverty.
The Global Citizen Festival this year, which began at 5 pm and continued late into the evening, had performances by super stars of the music world including Bono, Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon, Alicia Keys and John Mayer among many others. The gathering was also addressed by the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki Moon and Jim Kim, President of the World Bank.
